Throughout this trip you will experience what it takes to mountaineer at high altitude by climbing 2 different peaks around the Mexico City area. These peaks are non technical mountains but offer a great challenge due to their length and altitude. If you have dreams of moving towards bigger mountain objectives this is the absolutely perfect trip for you to test yourself at high altitude. Even if you do not have the desire to go on to bigger and more technical mountains then the Pico De Orizaba trip will offer you an experience that you will never forget

Day 2
Arrive at Iztaccíhuatl
Drive to the first climb of the trip a beautiful volcano, Iztaccíhuatl, right outside of Mexico City. Climb to the hut at 16,500ft where you will spend the night and begin your acclimatization. Enjoy panoramic views of the neighboring volcano, Popocatépetl, this volcano is extremely active and you can watch the smoke plume rise from the cap of the mountain. Sometimes you will even hear this majestic mountain roaring while on your climb

Summit Iztaccíhuatl
From the Iztaccíhuatl hut you will continue to climb this long and stunning volcano across the glacier field and past false summits until you eventually gain the summit (17,160ft). After the summit push you will hike back down and spend the night at the hut again or the base camp below depending on the speed of your ascent

After the summit of Iztaccíhuatl you will need a rest day. Puebla is a small and culturally rich city that boasts beautiful architecture and unforgettable culinary experiences. Enjoy the open air markets and stunning cathedrals while you regain strength for the next big mountain ahead, Orizaba.

4x4 Jeep Ride
With an early start to the day you will make your way to the quaint town of Tlachichuca which is at the base of Pico De Orizaba. Here you will get a jeep driver to bring you up the adventurous road to the hut at the base of Orizaba (14,010ft). This hut is located in a perfect spot to sit back enjoy the mesmerizing views of Pico De Orizaba and the expansive flatlands below

Waking up at the hut you will have a slow morning before heading up the Labyrinth for an acclimatization hike before summit day. An early night and lots of rest is essential this day as you will have a very early wake up and long day ahead with the summit push

Pico De Orizaba Summit Day
Begin your ascent around 2am and expect a big day ahead. Although the climb is only 4miles, you can expect steep climbing and difficult route finding. The journey to the top is a hard but unbelievably beautiful experience. As you ascend the glacier you will watch the sunrise and the mountain cast its shadow on the entire Country of Mexico below you. Summit Pico De Orizaba (18,491ft). After the summit you will descend the mountain and take the jeep ride back to the climbers hostel, Servimont. The hostel provides a homecooked authentic Mexican dinner for your celebration before you enjoy a well deserved sleep
